47 “Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like:
48 “He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
49 “But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”
So I ask myself, “What exactly am I building on?”
I know that often I am designing my actions and planning my future based on things that I desire. Plans that include a lot of me and not so much of God. – BUT – I pray for His blessing… That should count for something, shouldn’t it?
Well maybe not. The verse 49 guy’s house still isn’t going to survive when trouble arrives, even with a lot of prayer!
Verse 47 pretty well wraps this one up. Whoever comes to Him. The meaning of the Greek word that “comes” is translated is pretty simple:
1a1) to come from one place to another, and used both of persons arriving and of those returning
“Coming from another place” – A place of not knowing Him or being very distant from his heart.
So come from wherever you are in relation to God and get close. Hear His sayings / read the Bible and work to understand it. And last of all, Just Do What He (through His Word / The Bible) says.
As we follow this “building Plan”, we are equipping ourselves with the tools to build that house that is built on a Rock. That Rock is Jesus and using the right tools and setting it on a sound foundation, our structure will stand.
So when we want to know where we are to go / what we are to do in the future, we use the same tools. We can use them because they are familiar to us. We have used them and are adept at working with them.
Changes are sure to come in your future, When you have become comfortable with His tool box, you can (and will) make wise decisions based on prayer and wisdom gleaned from spending time in His Word and in His presence. If you need a bit of help – call a couple of fellow “Builders” to come along side and help.
Build you foundations solidly on the Rock of Jesus…
